Lovende eerste reacties Little Women van Greta Gerwig
LITTLE WOMEN, de nieuwe film van regisseur Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), is onlangs vertoond in Los Angeles voor de Directors Guild of America en leden van de Amerikaanse pers. De eerste reacties op deze nieuwe verfilming van het beroemde gelijknamige boek van Louise May Alcott waren zeer positief. Volgens de pers heeft regisseur Greta Gerwig een eigen frisse versie gemaakt van het geliefde verhaal. Zo zegt Chris O’Falt van IndieWire “Gerwig makes this material her own in delightful ways you’d expect and some adult-meditation-on-childhood ways I didn’t. So rewarding to see the ease with which she paints on this canvas and that she (or any director these days) was given it.” Daarnaast worden Saoirse Ronan en Florence Pugh nu al genoemd als mogelijke kanshebbers op Oscarnominaties. Jenelle Riley van Variety schrijft: “Saoirse Ronan is going to land her fourth Academy Award nomination for Little Women at the age of 25.”

Greta over Louisa May Alcott: “I stand on so many people’s shoulders before me. Louisa was really the one who made it possible by writing the story of her life and her sisters, by giving space on the page to women’s internal lives being worth something.”
Greta over films met vrouwelijke hoofdrolspelers: “It’s never been a better moment for a woman who wants to write or direct. We have a long way to go but I’m heartened by so many filmmakers and actors. I’m especially excited to see the movies by the next generation of girls.”
Timothée over de kostuums uit de film: “This is the only movie where I’ve found multiple clothing options hanging when I get to my trailer. Greta let us figure out for ourselves what our characters should wear, giving notes when needed.”
